Do you need Windows 11?

A question you might be asking yourself is if you need to update to Microsoft’s latest operating system. If the question is specifically about “needs” then the answer is pretty cut and dry.

If you have Windows 10, then no, you do not need to upgrade to Windows 11.

However, if you have an older OS like Windows 7, or Windows 8, or anything older, then you should upgrade your OS. For anyone using Windows 8.1, you have updates until January 10, 2023.

Do you want Windows 11?

This is more of a personal preference. In my opinion, if you have Windows 10, you will find it a better experience to wait to upgrade. Unless there is a specific feature of Windows 11 that you are looking for, you probably won’t find a noticeable difference besides aesthetics.

Windows 11 has a lot of semantic changes like changing “Quick Access” to “Home”, however many of these changes feel like afterthoughts as they don’t seem to be fully implemented in every part of the OS.

A benefit you may see from Windows 11, particularly if you’re purchasing a new computer, is that the requirements for Windows 11 mean that manufactures must include newer hardware in their desktops and laptops.

All in all, if you make the jump to Windows 11, you can expect a similar, but not the same, experience as Windows 10. But the changes may not be welcome to those who don’t like options they’re used to disappearing or changing names.
